Living Well, a free, six-week health improvement class about fitness, nutrition and living a lifestyle to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke and other serious diseases by taking steps toward wellness is being offered by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and the Hallett Center of Crosby in February and March.
Participants will learn to eat healthier and be more active. Hands-on cooking classes led by a culinary chef and registered dietitian will be offered and a psychologist and yoga instructor will share a variety of mind-body practices focused on enhancing overall quality of life. Fitness trainers will demonstrate how to build exercise and movement into everyday routines to improve core strength, balance and flexibility.
The classes, which will be facilitated by CRMC Board Certified Exercise Physiologist Amanda Weiss, will be held on Thursdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at Heartwood Senior Living Community beginning February 14 and continue until March 21. All supplies will be provided and healthy refreshments will be available.
Success of the program will be tracked through students’ results. To do this, all participants will be asked to have their weight and blood pressure measured by health professionals during the first and last class. All information will be kept confidential. In the inaugural class held this past Fall, each person lost an average of 4.45 pounds. Their average finishing blood pressures were 134/80 compared to 141/81 when they started.
There is no fee to participate but students must commit to participate all six weeks. All those completing the course will receive a T-shirt and water bottle. The class is limited to 100 participants. For more information, call 218-546-2616.
