Make Your Wishes Known: CRMC Hosts Healthcare Directive Event April 16
CROSBY, Minn. – In recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Day on April 16, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is encouraging community members to take an important step in planning for their future healthcare.
National Healthcare Decisions Day is dedicated to educating and empowering individuals and healthcare providers to engage in advance care planning. While these conversations can be difficult, the alternative can leave loved ones uncertain and overwhelmed when faced with making critical medical decisions.
A healthcare directive, sometimes called a living will, allows individuals to outline their medical preferences and designate someone they trust to make decisions on their behalf if they are unable to speak for themselves. CRMC emphasizes that advance care planning is important for all adults, not just those who are elderly or living with chronic conditions.
To support the community, a CRMC social worker and notary will be available in the hospital lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 16. They will assist individuals in completing a healthcare directive and provide guidance on how to begin conversations with loved ones about their wishes. No appointment is needed to talk with someone and learn about HCD, but it is preferred they call ahead to schedule an appointment if they wish to sit down and complete one. To schedule an appointment call 218-546-2357.
“Understandably, people would put off discussing the topic of serious illness and death, but it’s essential to have this family conversation in advance,” said KariLee Pietz, CRMC Director of Care Management. “It’s a discussion that should take place in the living room, not in the hospital waiting room when it may be too late.”
Completing a healthcare directive helps ensure your voice is heard and provides clarity and peace of mind for your family and care team.
For those unable to attend, appointments can be scheduled with a CRMC social worker by calling 218-546-2357.
