A Focus on Prostate Health
June is Men’s Health Month—a perfect opportunity to spotlight prostate health, an important yet often overlooked aspect of men’s well-being.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men in the United States. About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime. The risk increases significantly after age 50 and is even higher for African American men and those with a family history of prostate cancer.
Fortunately, early detection can greatly improve outcomes. Simple screenings, such as the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test, can help identify potential issues before symptoms appear.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle also plays a key role in supporting prostate health. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol consumption are all beneficial habits. Take a proactive step toward your well-being: talk to your primary care provider about your risk factors and whether it’s time to schedule a prostate screening with our Urology team.
