Women who are wondering if it is safe for them to obtain a COVID-19 vaccination if they are pregnant or breastfeeding are encouraged to hear Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Obstetrician/Gynecologist Ann Johnson, M.D., speak about benefits and risks in a brief, virtual presentation Thursday, Feb. 11. Go to https://www.facebook.com/crosbycares/ at 6 p.m. to view the presentation.
Dr. Johnson will explain why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine all agree that the COVID-19 vaccine should be offered to pregnant and breastfeeding individuals who are eligible for vaccination.
She will also discuss women’s options of being vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available or waiting until after birth to receive a vaccination as well as ways to modify exposures to COVID-19. Dr. Johnson will also explain why those considering pregnancy should obtain the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is available to protect themselves and their pregnancy and how the COVID-19 vaccination is not believed to affect future fertility.
The presentation is part of a series of workshops offered by CRMC Women’s Health the third Thursday of each month. For more information, visit https://www.cuyunamed.org/patient-care/womens-health
