A total of 42 people lost weight and lowered their blood pressure after attending Living Well, a six-week health improvement class offered recently by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and Hallett Community Center.
The beginning average weight of participants was 199.64 pounds and their post average weight was 183.39 pounds—a difference of 15.75 pounds. Each person lost an average of 2.29 pounds. Their average finishing blood pressures were 128/80 compared to 135/80 when they started, a 7 mmHg systolic average reduction.
The class covered preparing healthy meals; exercises to do while cooking; reading labels, portion control and movement during meal preparation; physical activity; and mindfulness. Students received a six-week calendar of small daily challenges to guide their success together with a wellness book for tracking success. Those completing five out of the six classes received T-shirts and water bottles.
Another series of free classes will begin in the Fall in Crosby and in Breezy Point. Visit cuyunamed.org or like Cuyuna Regional Medical Center on Facebook late this summer for registration details.
