Board Certified Foot and Ankle Surgeon Stephen C. Schmid, DPM, FACFAS, joined the medical staff at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in July 2024. He came to CRMC from Fergus Falls, MN, where he practiced at Lake Region Medical Group for eleven years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Iowa and acquired his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine at Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. Dr. Schmid completed his podiatric medical and surgical residency at Detroit Medical Center. He also completed a surgical leadership program at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Schmid is a member of the Minnesota Podiatric Medical Association, American Podiatric Medical Association, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Fellow Member.
Dr. Schmid has a strong background in trauma and reconstructive surgery and enjoys this aspect of his practice. He also finds joy in improving the quality of life for his patients. He has lectured nationally, has completed extensive research, and has received several awards for his podiatric and leadership experience. Dr. Schmid is passionate about his volunteer work with Molo Hope Medical Missions in Molo, Kenya. The facility attends to medical cases mostly of patients from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, children, youth, and elderly.
Born in Minnesota, Dr. Schmid spent his summers on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. His wife is also a podiatrist, and they have two children.
