Bio
Dr. Kristin Furan began practicing at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in January 2019. She treats individuals, couples, and families struggling with needs such as grief and loss, stress and anxiety, panic attacks and fears, life and family transitions, parenting and relational conflict, depression and other mood disorders, trauma, social difficulties, chronic illness, self-defeating or harmful behaviors, substance abuse and issues with self-esteem. She uses a compassionate, collaborative, and mind-body-spirit approach and incorporates insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), and solution-focused interventions.
Common therapy outcomes include clarity about circumstances and life goals, increased compassion for self and others, regulation of emotions, development of healthy thinking patterns and a resilient mindset, effective coping and communication skills, stronger problem-solving and decision-making abilities, increased sense of life purpose, and renewed and healthier connections with self and others.
Dr. Furan has previously worked and/or trained in settings including group private practice, crisis intervention, hospitals, the VAMC, day treatment, forensics, and a substance abuse treatment center. She completed her doctoral degree in clinical psychology in 2004. In addition to a long list of extensive certifications, she is also trained in PTSD-specific treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy. As a PsyPact provider, Dr. Furan can see established patients via telehealth in all PsyPact states (40+ states).
