
Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Diabetes Education Nurse Rebekah Gorny, R.N., of Merrifield recently obtained her Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist certification.
Obtaining the certification solidifies Gorny’s commitment to providing quality diabetes care to patients. She achieved the designation by completing 1,000 hours of direct diabetes patient care, 25 hours of continuing education and passing the certification exam.
Gorny specializes in the care and management of patients with both Type I and Type II diabetes, as well as women with gestational diabetes, teaching them about the common disease and how to live a healthy life. The nurse instructs her patients on foot and skin care; appropriate diet; monitoring of blood glucose; and administration of insulin.
A CRMC employee since 2015, Gorny previously worked as a Registered Nurse on the medical floor at Region’s Hospital in St. Paul for two years and in the emergency department at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth for nine years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and is a and licensed Public Health Nurse.
