Orthopaedic Surgeon Susan Moen this week received Cuyuna Regional Medical Center’s Trophy Fish Award for going above and beyond in her job by helping a stranger change a tire.
Dr. Moen was on a break from seeing patients at the Baxter Clinic when she came upon a man in dress clothes starting to change a flat tire on his vehicle. She helped him guide the spare tire onto the lugs and cheerfully helped to change the tire. After the task was completed, she learned the man she was assisting was Essentia Health’s Service Excellence Program Manager who leads their patient experience and service training efforts. “I was struck with Susan’s positive attitude, apparent mentality of service and helping others,” he wrote. “I’m guessing she’s that way in dealing with her patients and co-workers. You’re lucky to have her.”
A Fellowship trained hand surgeon, Dr. Moen joined the Minnesota Center for Orthopaedics in September 2016. She is a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine, completed a fellowship at HealthPartners Institute for Education and Research in St. Paul and an orthopaedic surgery residency at Summa Health Systems.
Other nominees for June included Clinic Certified Medical Assistant Laura Hoffard, Lab Technician Lois Hoppe and Critical Care Unit Assistant Jerra Nylund.
