A Gentle Path to the 12 Steps, a 12 Step Program workshop, will soon be offered at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
Facilitated by Licensed Professional Counselor Pennie Carnes, the workshop is for people in recovery for all types of addiction including alcohol, drugs, sex, overeating and gambling. The sessions will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays for six consecutive weeks from April 4 through May 9.
According to Carnes, the workshop will provide a unique set of structured forms and exercises to help recovering people integrate the Twelve Steps in to their life. She added that the group will be held in a non-judging and non-shaming environment and all participants must abide to strict confidentiality guidelines.
Carnes specializes in treating addictions, mood disorders, trauma and attachment disorders. Specifically, she treats individuals with sex addiction, money disorders, drug/alcohol dependence and abuse, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and general trauma disorders, behavior disorders, anger management and generalized anxiety disorders. She holds a Master’s degree in counseling from Argosy University in Dallas and a Bachelor’s degree in counseling from Texas A & M. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, Multiple Addiction Therapist, and life coach. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
Cost of the workshop is $60 per session and is covered by most insurance plans. The workbook, A Gentle Path Through the Twelve Steps by Dr. Patrick Carnes, is required. The workbook can be purchased through Hazelton Publishing, Amazon, or at the workshop. Participants will also be required to complete homework.
