CROSBY SENIOR SERVICES TO BREAK GROUND ON A CUYUNA-RANGE FIRST
Heartwood Senior Living Community to Bring Innovative Health Services,
Resort-Style Senior Living to Northern Minnesota

Crosby, Minn. (October 1, 2007) – Crosby Senior Services will break ground on Heartwood Senior Living Community at 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 10. The ceremony will take place at the corner of Third Avenue and Fourth Street NE. This is just steps away from the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, where the approximately 180,000-square-foot community will be constructed.  There will be a reception immediately following at the Crosby-Ironton Presbyterian Church at 30 Hallett Avenue in Crosby.

“Heartwood will be a welcome first for this region,” says Jac McTaggart, Senior Services Administrator for the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, which joined forces with Presbyterian Homes & Services to create Crosby Senior Services.  “Our approach to senior services will be unlike any in this area; Heartwood will have the look and feel of a gracious, upscale resort, while providing leading-edge, yet highly compassionate, care and services seniors need to thrive, both today and tomorrow. It will be an impressive reflection of the innovation for which the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center is known.”

The almost $23 million community will serve approximately 150 seniors in 98 senior living, assisted living, and memory care apartment homes. It is anticipated to be completed next fall. Heartwood residents will receive access into both the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and its long-term care center providing a complete continuum of services

Senior living apartments will range from 700 to over 1500 square feet and will feature spacious, full kitchens and bathrooms, in-home washers and dryers, expansive windows, balconies and the newest emergency call systems. Many apartments will include fireplaces and dens. There will be underground, heated parking available.

Assisted living apartments will have similar amenities, but will also include a higher level of professional health and wellness services. The Arbor, a separate memory care program within Heartwood, will feature a dozen roomy apartments with their own full bathrooms. Residents can enjoy the company of others in a common great room with fireplace, dining room, living room and lounge, as well as a sunny courtyard.

Heartwood’s focal point will be the Town Center featuring a two-story great room with a stone fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking abundant trees and wildlife, as well as amenities such as a conference center, restaurant-style dining, beauty salon, marketplace, bistro, club rooms, fitness center, screen porch and more.

“We are taking great care to create a community that mirrors the beauty of its surroundings in both form and spirit,” John Mehrkens, Vice President Senior Housing Partners the development arm of Presbyterian Homes & Services. “We are integrating Heartwood into the land, as opposed to merely clearing a site. The design will blend beautifully and almost seamlessly with the nature around it. Our goal is to both honor and reflect the abiding commitment to the natural resources that is upheld by the people of this region.”
